Aurora
Aurora, affectionately known as “Rory” is a sweet 1 ½
year old giant schnauzer. Although this breed is known to be susceptible
to skin and eye problems, Rory was suffering greatly the first time I
saw her. She had to wear a cone to keep her from scratching her left eye.
It was inflamed and exuding pus. She had a skin problem which presented
as hard bumps mostly on her head and some on her back. This was later
diagnosed by a western vet as demodectic mange.
Rory’s spirit was greatly diminished but her sweetness was still
perceptible. The thing that was most troubling about this case was I knew
time was a factor as one of her humans alluded to having her ‘put
out of her misery.” I prescribed the first remedy, referred her
to a holistic vet and made some suggestions about changing her diet.
I next saw Rory a month later. I would say she was 50% better at this
point. She no longer had to wear a cone, her eye looked much better and
the acrid smell she exuded on the first visit had disappeared. Sadly enough,
her one human was still dubious about her future.
The fascinating turn in this case was when her male human started talking
about his time with her. His eyes lit up as he described taking her on
long walks in a natural preserve near his house. He said Rory would come
alive outside, run like the wind, and occasionally come by to nuzzle his
hand as they walked. This combined with her laying her had on my feet
as we talked clinched my decision on her the final remedy.
The last time I check in on Rory, I was told that she was completey cured
and leading a normal and happy life. I was very, very gratified.
